A journey that started with sisters

Meet our donor Hans Wiemann

Hans Wiemann was born in Germany in a hospital operated by a religious order of women. Later, when his younger siblings were born, he witnessed the great care and compassion his mother received from the sisters in the hospital. His experiences laid the foundation for his future connection with the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND).

In 1957, Hans moved to the United States. He again encountered a group of religious women at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis. Once again, he was impressed by the sisters’ values at the hospital.

While visiting a new dentist, Hans noticed that the office waiting room was frequently filled with sisters. He asked the dentist about this and learned that the women were School Sisters of Notre Dame Community. The dentist shared that he took care of their teeth free of charge as a way of giving back to the community. Through this connection, Hans started to donate to SSND.

As Hans continued to learn more about the School Sisters of Notre Dame through the events he attended, the letters he received from the congregation and the SSND website, he grew increasingly aligned with the sisters’ missions and values. To continue his support, he joined the Blessed Theresa Society by including SSND in his estate plans.

One of Hans’s favorite memories with the School Sisters of Notre Dame is attending GermanFest, a fundraising event. He enjoyed the German music and festivities while having a chance to visit with the sisters. Hans invited four other couples to the event, and the couples were so impressed that they later became donors too. Hans believes it is important to tell friends and family about SSND so that more people can learn about their important work.

A journey that started with sisters in Germany caring for his mother, has led Hans to the School Sisters of Notre Dame. We are thankful for Hans’s dedication and generosity!
