2019 Vocations Team
Called and sent: vocation awareness

National Vocation Awareness Week is November 1-7, 2020. This annual celebration is dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. This promotion is done through education, renewing prayers and support for those considering or discerning one of these particular vocations. Sister Bridget Waldorf, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame North American Vocation Team (NAVT), shares, “During COVID-19, the NAVT is thinking more creatively on how to connect with young adults, encouraging our sisters to be involved in vocation ministry and to plan for future gatherings.”

The importance of Care of Creation

Care of creation is seen as such an important issue that Pope Francis wrote an encyclical named Laudato Si’. There are many ways the School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province have implemented Care of Creation as a topic of importance, such as the Season of Creation every fall and our Land Ethic Statement. Sister Jeanne Wingenter shares, “Our Land Ethic Statement says to live more simply, responsibly and sustainably with one another and with all of creation.”

Retirement for a sister

Retirement is an important stage in life for everyone. Sister Ann Carol Kaufenberg shares what sisters at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Mankato, Minnesota, experience when they fully retire. Sister Ann Carol states, “This time of coming back to where we started, many years ago, is a time to renew friendships and to meet up with sisters who have been in interesting ministries over the years. It’s a time to learn again the joys, challenges and mystery of this calling to give all to God, as best we can.”

Believe in the mission of SSND

Darrell and Irene Eiden became friends of the School Sisters of Notre Dame through their parish and school in the 1960s. In 1984, they officially became associates and have been donors ever since.
