Nuns on the Bus in Mankato, Minnesota
School Sisters of Notre Dame joined the Nuns on the Bus rally in Mankato for voter education and mobilization on Sept. 22, 2014, and to support Sister Alice Zachmann, SSND, who rode the bus from Sept. 22-24 through Minnesota where it also stopped in St. Joseph, Duluth and St. Paul.
The “Get Out the Vote” rally was sponsored by the local YWCA of Mankato, both to honor Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, a YWCA National Woman of Distinction, and to support the mission of the 2014 Nuns on the Bus Tour. The purpose for the 10-state tour, “We the People, We the Voters,” is to encourage citizens to vote and make their voices heard in the midterm election on Nov. 4.
The “We the People, We the Voters” Nuns on the Bus began its tour in Iowa. Following the Minnesota visit, the tour continues on to Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia and Colorado.
This is the third Nuns on the Bus tour. In May 2013, two School Sisters of Notre Dame rode on the bus tour to raise awareness about immigration reform, and many other SSNDs joined in rallies as it stopped throughout the United States.
