Quilting Retreat

"Quilting on the Hill" Retreat Attendee“Quilting on the Hill” Retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel Campus is an opportunity for both experienced and new quilters to quilt, connect, reflect, relax - and quilt some more. In Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger’s letters she shares that needlework was an essential part of the elementary curriculum in Bavaria. When the sisters came to America and established a school in Pittsburg, parents requested that the girls be instructed in the art of needlework.

"Quilting on the Hill" Retreat AttendeeSeveral years ago, requests from the Mankato area came asking if the sisters would be willing to host a quilting retreat. Women could gather in a large group and learn the art of quilt making from one another. This was an opportunity to continue Blessed Theresa’s ministry of needlework for this time in history.

With the large conference center, overnight accommodations, space for meals and Sunday liturgy, sisters and staff hosted the first “Quilting on the Hill” retreat in the spring of 2013. It was a huge success! Participants positive "Quilting on the Hill" Retreat Attendeeevaluation comments included: best retreat I’ve been on; met many new friends; being on this campus; friendliness and helpfulness of staff; having the retired sisters visit us; it would be great to have some of the elder sisters bring their crafts and stay with us.

This retreat is now a semi-annual event, held in the spring and fall of the year. For more information on retreats, please visit http://www.ssndcentralpacific.org/Pray/Retreat-Opportunities.
